The new Special Care Unit (SCU) wing, Galleon Gardens Retirement Community, at Currumbin Waters, Queensland is located between at the foothills of the Gold Coast Hinterlands and surrounded by tall Eucalyptus and Melaleuca trees, the project has provided 36 new RAC rooms spread across both existing and new wings. Designed around two generous courtyards with ample seating opportunities and shade structures, the residents are encouraged to engage in outdoor activities promoting wellness. The design incorporates best practice design for dementia principles.

The project has been peer reviewed by Prof. Richard Fleming and is also featured as an exemplary case study in the World Alzheimer’s Report 2020.
